Top 10 Hottest Lesbian Sex Scenes in the Movies

What’s better than mainstream movie nudity? Plenty of actresses have flashed some skin over the years, but it gets much more interesting when they share the big screen with a fellow actress for some girl on girl action. From the titillating and classy to the “I can’t believe this is happening”, here are some of the best lesbian scenes the world of cinema has to offer.

10. Wild Things (1998) – Neve Campbell & Denise Richards

Although it’s probably best remembered for its menage a trois between Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell and Denise Richards, sleazy erotic thriller Wild Things also treated us to a one-on-one scene which just featured the ladies. Fans of two of the hottest actresses from the 90s were treated to a hot scene where the pair passionately kiss in an outdoor pool with no Dillon in sight – although Kevin Bacon is watching from the bushes. The two make out and remove each other’s tops before the camera sadly pans away as they carry on their sexy, late night skinny dipping.

9. Henry & June (1990) – Uma Thurman & Maria de Medeiros

Henry & June had the honour of being the first mainstream movie to be awarded an NC-17 rating. The new classification replaced the ‘X rating’ which had over the years found itself being primarily used by the pornograpy industry. The NC-17 was the MPAA’s solution for classifying movies which featured more violence or sexuality than a ‘typical’ R rating and it made sure that the average movie goer didn’t think that they were just watching sleazy porno fare. Depicting the love triangle between French author Anais Nin and American writer Henry Miller and his wife June, this period drama isn’t actually as explicit as others on this list (the movie is thought to have received the higher rating because it briefly shows an explicit postcard which depicts the image of a woman sexually entwined with two octopuses) but it’s still worth mentioning just for the tasteful writhing scenes between Uma Thurman and Maria de Medeiros.

8. Mulholland Drive (2001) – Naomi Watts & Laura Harring

Mulholland Drive definitely deserves its reputation for being one of the biggest mindfuck movies ever made, but viewers who don’t have the patience to figure out David Lynch’s masterpiece are at the very least rewarded with some lesbian action between Naomi Watts and Laura Harring. The two take part in lustful kissing and handsy groping during some pretty racy sex scenes which surprisingly don’t really border on the exploitative or gratuitous.

7. Cruel Intentions (1999) – Sarah Michelle Gellar & Selma Blair

Cruel Intentions is an entertainingly deviant teen drama from the late 90s. This sexy reworking of Dangerous Liaisons stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as the scheming Kathryn who takes the sheltered Cecile, played by Selma Blair, under her corruptible wing. Kathryn gamely teaches Cecile what first base is with a practical oral lesson. In probably one of the most rewatched scenes in movie history, Kathryn instructs Cecile to “massage her tongue” before the two go in for a lengthy makeout session. Sure, it’s a lot tamer than other entries on this list, but seeing Buffy the Vampire Slayer in a lesbian scene was on the wishlist of every horny teen at the time.

6. The Hunger (1983) – Catherine Deneuve & Susan Sarandon

The Hunger is a sexy horror which focuses on a love triangle between an immortal vampire, her husband (played by Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie) and a scientist (Susan Sarandon) who is researching the effects of aging. An accidentally spilled drink sparks off the attraction between the two women during an already tantalisingly seductive scene, and it’s not long before they move from tender topless touching straight into the bedroom. As they explore each other’s naked bodies surrounded by billowing net curtains and with classical music playing in the background, you realise this a surprisingly classy yet still explicit scene (which is even more surprising when you realise the director is Tony Scott) which plays out more like a perfume commercial than it does a spot of gratuitous lesbian romping.

5. Gia (1998) – Angelina Jolie & Elizabeth Mitchell

Although it’s technically a HBO TV movie, it would be criminal to leave Gia off this list. The tragic biopic explores the doomed relationship between supermodel Gia Carangi (played by Angelina Jolie) and makeup artist Sandy Linter (Elizabeth Mitchell). The two work up an attraction when they pose nude for a sexy photoshoot which seems them pressing their naked bodies against each other through a chain link fence. This foreplay quickly leads into the bedroom as they engage in some tasteful, but still pretty steamy, sexy antics.

4. Bound (1996) – Jennifer Tilly & Gina Gershon

Before the Wachowskis brought us the Matrix trilogy, the filmmaking siblings made their mark in Hollywood with their lesbian crime flick Bound. The noir-inspired thriller stars Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon as two lovers who hatch a plot to steal money from the mafia. Bound gained particular attention for its seductive and graphic same-sex scenes featuring the two actresses, but it was applauded for its realistic portrayal of the lesbian relationship at the core of the film. The most memorable scene is a long, one-take tracking shot which sees Gershon being pleasured by Tilly in bed. To make the lovemaking between the two women as realistic as possible, the Wachowskis asked feminist writer Susie Bright to choreograph the sex scenes and act as a ‘sex consultant’ on the movie. Although we’re not exactly sure what this required, Bright definitely did a good job of it.

3. Chloe (2009) – Amanda Seyfried & Julianne Moore

Chloe is an erotically charged drama starring Amanda Seyfried as the titular mysterious call girl who is ‘hired’ by Julianne Moore to test her husband’s fidelity. As Chloe manipulatively recounts the explicit sexual encounters she has been having with the husband, Moore’s character finds herself overcome with erotic curiosity and she gives into the younger temptresses’ ways. What follows is one seriously hot scene which you wouldn’t expect from two big Hollywood actresses as the two naked women pleasure each other in bed.

2. Black Swan (2010) – Natalie Portman & Mila Kunis

A lesbian love scene between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis is something no horny film fan ever truly expected to see on the big screen, but director Darren Aronofsky delivered our wildest fantasies for his psychological horror flick Black Swan. Determined to get the lead role in the latest production of Swan Lake, ambitious ballet dancer Nina (Natalie Portman) realises that she needs to lose her inhibitions if she is to play the sensual Black Swan as well as the innocent, graceful White Swan. During her sexual awakening, Nina brings fellow dancer Lily (Mila Kunis) back to her bedroom after they’ve both been out clubbing and Nina has taken ecstasy. The pair waste no time in stripping out of their clothes and they make out before Lily goes down on the moaning, writhing Nina. Although neither actress shows a great deal of skin in the scene (and it gets pretty trippy when Nina briefly thinks she sees Lily morph into herself), the two actresses are very enthusiastic and very, very hot together.

1. Blue is the Warmest Colour (2013) – Léa Seydoux & Adèle Exarchopoulos

Leave it to the French to deliver big time when it comes to steamy scenes of a sexual nature. It’s easy to see why Blue is the Warmest Colour caused such a stir when it premiered at Cannes in 2013. The coming-of-age drama focuses on the passionate relationship between two young women and news about the movie’s lengthy sex scenes soon became the talk of the French film festival (it went on to win the coveted Palme d’Or). Some of the extremely graphic and sensual acts see Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos lock together in a mess of tangled limbs as they really explore every inch of each other’s body. This includes scenes of scissoring, cunnilingus and fingering which look very, very realistic (the two actresses apparently needed to wear prosthetic vaginas to film them). Blue is the Warmest Colour is one of the most graphic lesbian movies in history and both actresses deserve credit for their realistic performances and for the athleticism needed to film the movie’s seriously lengthy sex scenes.
