Top 10 Smartest Dogs

Dog lovers would like all dogs, whether they are unusually smart, whether they are unusually good looking or if they are usually loyal. Though it is natural that we are bound to think that our dog is the smartest, the world is free to think differently and here we have estimated a list of the world’s top 10 smartest dogs. However do not confuse this list with dogs that are easy to train.

1. Australian Cattle Dog
This is a very active breed and need to be exercised regularly – both mentally as well as physically. They were originally bred to herd cattle in Australia and are thus resourceful, free thinking and very protective.

2. Rottweiler
This breed of dogs has a fearsome reputation though they do not rightly deserve that tag. They are awesome family dogs, very intelligent and mostly outrageously courageous. They are one of the best dogs to own since they are very reliable.

3. Papillon
Papillons are a lot tougher than they really look. They are moody, sometimes aggressive and very possessive of their masters. They are very affectionate and that may surprise some. While these dogs are very intelligent, they are also pretty easy to train.

4. Labrador Retriever
This one is a very good looking dog, extremely loving, highly affectionate and very patient. Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world. They need quite a bit of exercise, love to work and if you try and get them lazy they might develop weight problems. They are one of the best family dogs to have since they love children, other dogs and very well behaved.

5. Shetland sheepdog
Those who own this one claim that the dogs have intelligence at par with humans. They were originally bred to heard sheep and cattle. Shetlands have tremendous intelligence and a great ability to concentrate. Even though they are slightly wary of strangers, they are more than loyal to their own family. Since these are very affectionate dogs, they often crave human companionship.

6. Doberman Pinscher

This breed of dogs comes with everything that makes us fond of dogs – loyal, loving, intelligent, patient, eager to please the master, fond of children etc. they are not only very obedient dogs but brilliant with performing tricks and following instructions.

8. German Shepherd
These dogs are blessed with a very strong protective instinct. Besides that, they are highly intelligent, smart and rather courageous. It is most happy when made to work since they want to use their intelligence in a fruitful way. While they are very good family dogs, if trained sternly, they would also be great with police.

9. Poodle
The poodle is very intelligent and also pretty easy to train. They like humans around them and get very depressed and sometimes destructive if left alone. They are sensitive, pleasant and intelligent guard dogs. Sometimes they can also be trained to hunt.

10. Border Collie
The most intelligent of the top ten smartest dogs, a Border Collie constantly needs work to keep them happy. They are very destructive if left alone. They need to be accompanied all the time, praised constantly and a large amount of exercise.
