Dog lovers would like all dogs, whether they are unusually smart, whether they are unusually good looking or if they are usually loyal. Though it is natural that we are bound to think that our dog is the smartest, the world is free to think differently and here we have estimated a list of the world’s top 10 smartest dogs. However do not confuse this list with dogs that are easy to train.

1. Australian Cattle Dog
This is a very active breed and need to be exercised regularly – both mentally as well as physically. They were originally bred to herd cattle in Australia and are thus resourceful, free thinking and very protective.

2. Rottweiler
This breed of dogs has a fearsome reputation though they do not rightly deserve that tag. They are awesome family dogs, very intelligent and mostly outrageously courageous. They are one of the best dogs to own since they are very reliable.

3. Papillon
Papillons are a lot tougher than they really look. They are moody, sometimes aggressive and very possessive of their masters. They are very affectionate and that may surprise some. While these dogs are very intelligent, they are also pretty easy to train.

4. Labrador Retriever
This one is a very good looking dog, extremely loving, highly affectionate and very patient. Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world. They need quite a bit of exercise, love to work and if you try and get them lazy they might develop weight problems. They are one of the best family dogs to have since they love children, other dogs and very well behaved.

5. Shetland sheepdog
Those who own this one claim that the dogs have intelligence at par with humans. They were originally bred to heard sheep and cattle. Shetlands have tremendous intelligence and a great ability to concentrate. Even though they are slightly wary of strangers, they are more than loyal to their own family. Since these are very affectionate dogs, they often crave human companionship.

6. Doberman Pinscher
Now this is one smart breed of dogs. Loyalty, assertiveness and courage are inborn within this breed. They are work-a-holics and have tremendous stamina. Widely they are known as a dominant breed but the temperament may vary from dog to dog. They are not exactly vicious but may grow aggressive when it comes to protecting their masters.

7. Golden Retriever
This breed of dogs comes with everything that makes us fond of dogs – loyal, loving, intelligent, patient, eager to please the master, fond of children etc. they are not only very obedient dogs but brilliant with performing tricks and following instructions.

8. German Shepherd
These dogs are blessed with a very strong protective instinct. Besides that, they are highly intelligent, smart and rather courageous. It is most happy when made to work since they want to use their intelligence in a fruitful way. While they are very good family dogs, if trained sternly, they would also be great with police.

9. Poodle
The poodle is very intelligent and also pretty easy to train. They like humans around them and get very depressed and sometimes destructive if left alone. They are sensitive, pleasant and intelligent guard dogs. Sometimes they can also be trained to hunt.

10. Border Collie
The most intelligent of the top ten smartest dogs, a Border Collie constantly needs work to keep them happy. They are very destructive if left alone. They need to be accompanied all the time, praised constantly and a large amount of exercise.

Wildlife is being exploited to such extents that species now feel endangered and they need to be protected. The World Wildlife Federation (WWF) has listed the top 10 most endangered species in the world.

1. Black Rhino
It is a native to southern and east Africa. The black rhino population has decreased by 90% since the beginning of 1970. At present there are less than 3000 rhinos. Since they are killed mostly for their valuable horns, the trade of black rhinos has been banned from over 20 years now.

2. Giant Panda
This one is native to China and at present only a few less than 1000 are alive. Poaching and a loss of habitat are the reasons why this species is becoming extinct.

3. Tiger
Tigers are native to South East Asia and Russia. There are less than 6000 tigers left in the world today. Poaching of tiger body parts and the use of tiger bones in making Asian medicines are the reasons why tigers feel endangered today.

4. Beluga Sturgeon
These are ancient living fish fossils found only in the Caspian Sea. They have very high quality pearl like caviar. Poaching has been banned but it is beyond control to ensure they stay alive as markets are ready to pay very high prices for these.

5. Goldenseal
This is a rare herb that is believed to cure a range of ailments like hemorrhoids and allergies. They are found only in the hardwood forests of North America. Recently the demand for goldenseal has increased by 30%.

6. Alligator Snapping Turtle
The alligator snapping turtle brings very rare meat that is highly priced. It is the largest freshwater turtle known and native to North America. The number of these turtles is fast depleting due to international markets shipping them.

7. Hawksbill Turtle
This turtle is found mostly around tropical reefs. It is about three feet in length and has a distinctive snout and do not reproduce fast. Since they are traded illegally at a very high rate, the species is also nearing extinction. The shell of this tortoise is prized like jewel. No wonder it figures in the list of top ten endangered species.

8. Big Leaf Mahogany
Mahogany is known to have very good quality wood and is used widely in order to make furniture. These trees are distributed from the Amazon Basin till up to Mexico and their red wood is much cherished. However the trees grow individually in forests and not in groups. The inconsiderate depletion of the trees has caused a 70% fall in mahogany trees over the past few years.

9. Green Cheeked Parrot
This one is native to Mexico and can mimic the human voice. They make lovely pets and thus have a huge demand especially in the United States. Even though the trade of these birds has been prohibited, the same continues even today causing even more harm to the species.

10. Mako Shark
This one is a wanted species for its tender meat and majority of the consumers are from markets in Asia. The fins of the shark are also highly valued for medicinal purposes. Sometimes, the fins are stripped off the sharks and the sharks are left only to die in the sea.
